about

//WEB

I am a self-taught website maker. I say ‘maker’ because all these terms like ‘designer’, ‘developer’ and ‘programmer’ can be confusing (even for the people who work in the industry).

My thinking is that when most people decide they want a website they just want something that looks nice, keeps working smoothly and doesn’t cause them any problems. So this is what I offer.

There are different stages of the process and I can help you with all of them or if needed, just with some.

First there’s the concept of the website. This is where we talk (preferably in person) about exactly why you want a website, who it is aimed at and what you expect it to do. We can also discuss whether you want to be able to manage your own site i.e. add and edit content yourself using a really simple, user-friendly system.

Next there’s design: this is the part where I listen to you and get my head around what it is you want your website to communicate. This usually involves talking about colours and layout and throwing around words like ‘clean’, ‘spacious’, ‘earthy’, ‘fresh’, ‘professional’ etc. Then I go away and sit in front of my screen and paint the idea in to existence with a clever mixture of pixels and patience.

Once everyone’s happy with the design we can move on to the development or build stage.

You don’t have to think about this part at all. This is when the design gets turned in to a functioning website using various bits of code. And then when we’re both happy with the way your site looks, works and feels we can go live.

Most of my experience is in working with individuals or small companies so I understand what these clients want from a website and I deliver a personal service, with no jargon and no faff at very affordable prices.

//PRINT

As well as web work I offer a service in producing artwork for posters, flyers, programmes, business cards, CD artwork etc. I have found myself doing more of this work recently, it seems to be a natural progression from the web design and something I really enjoy. The process of working together on these kinds of projects is not dissimilar to the way we would work on a web site. We would meet up, or communicate via email to get the initial brief together and then I would go away and work on a design or some ideas, come back to you for feedback before completing the project and then finally arranging printing or getting the finished design back to you.

If you need some artwork done to advertise or communicate an event, or a happening, or you need a design doing for any product then get in touch and we can talk about working together to produce what you need.
